Generally caused by malfunctioning vein valves, venous ulcers occur when blood pools in the extremity instead of flowing freely back toward the heart.

We will design a treatment plan to improve your blood circulation. This plan can include increased compression stockings, posture modifications, physical activity, medication, and vein procedures.  As the ulcer heals, specialized wound care may be required. Be aware that vein disease is missed on most standard ultrasounds that are not performed by vein specialists. Our goal is to treat the underlying vein disease to heal venous leg ulcers. In doing so, we lower the risk of ulcers coming back when compared to wound care alone.
